Mount Kiscos Take Back Drug Day A Tremendous Success

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – Saturday’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day was an even bigger success than last year, Mount Kisco Drug & Alcohol Abuse Prevention Coalition Chairman Michael Gedigk said.

“The amount of prescription drugs that were collected were about twice as many as last year’s event,” said Gedigk.

Over 200 pounds of expired or unused medications were turned in by more than 70 residents from Mount Kisco, New Castle, Bedford and Somers also, Gedigk said.

The event is put on by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mount Kisco Drug & Alcohol Abuse Prevention Coalition and the Mount Kisco Police Department

Gedigk said most of the people who brought in old drugs found out about the program from village email, local news sources and word of mouth.

And, as for what happened to all the drugs that were donated, Gedigk said, “The DEA took care of disposing the drugs.”
