Candido Tomasini, 35, and Maribel Roman, 40, of Fitchburg were both ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing this Friday, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.

Prosecutor’s detectives teamed up with agents from the DEA, the New York State Drug Enforcement Task Force, New York State Police and the NYPD to stop the pair on Monday – with help from a Bergen County Regional SWAT team and Paramus police -- after his investigators were tipped off to their activities, Calo said.

They found the drugs and cash “inside two separate aftermarket electronically operated hidden compartments,” the prosecutor said.

The heroin and cocaine were worth a combined $600,000 on the street, he said.

Tomasini and Roman were charged with drug and money laundering counts, he said.

DEA Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge James Hunt called the pair “significant traffickers who fed drug addiction throughout the New York and New Jersey area

“By working with our law enforcement partners, this heroin and cocaine network has been shut down and dismantled,” he added.

New York State Police Supt. George P. Beach II said the arrests “speak to the inter-agency coordination and cooperation dedicated to get drugs out of our neighborhoods.”
