Gerard Benderoth, the retired New York City police officer and popular Strongman that committed suicide on Wednesday in Rockland County may have reportedly had connections to the former Hudson Valley cop turned drug conspirator that was implicated in a quadruple murder last year.

On Wednesday, Benderoth, 48, shot and killed himself in Haverstraw when local police and F.B.I. agents attempted to pull him over on Rosman Road. According to multiple reports , law enforcement agencies were looking to question Benderoth about his connection and relation to Nicholas Tartaglione, who is being held without bail in federal jail in Brooklyn for his reported role in the execution-style shootings of four men in Chester.

Tartaglione worked as a police officer in Briarcliff Manor, and earlier, in Mount Vernon and Pawling.

According to an indictment that was filed in White Plains Federal Court last year, on April 11, 2016, Tartaglione killed Martin Luna, 41, Urbano Santiago, 32, Miguel Luna, 25, and Hector Gutierrez, 43, at the Likquid Lounge, a bar which his brother reportedly managed for a time in the town of Chester in Orange after a cocaine deal that went bad allegedly involved at least one of the victims.

It is alleged that Tartaglione then drove with the bodies about a half hour from the bar in Chester to his farm in Otisville, also in Orange, where the men's four bodies were removed by investigators.

Benderoth’s potential role in any alleged incident and his connection to Tartaglione remains under question. According to a New York Post report , he was facing undisclosed charges for his role in the quadruple murder. One of Tartaglione’s defense lawyers, Bruce Barket, could not immediately be reached for comment on Friday. The investigation is ongoing.
