The 16-year-old suspect accused of fatally stabbing another girl, a New Rochelle High School junior on Wednesday, has surrendered to police.

Z’inah Brown of Yonkers surrendered to the New Rochelle Police Department at 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. She was taken into custody and booked for second-degree murder for her role in the fatal stabbing of Valaree Schwab. Police said that Brown made no statements following her arrest.

According to police, officers responded to Dunkin' Donuts on North Avenue shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, where there were reports of a fight involving multiple high school-aged students. During the dispute, Schwab suffered two stab wounds to her torso from a steak knife. She was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, but was pronounced dead there later in the afternoon.

Brown was identified as a suspect by police on Thursday morning. The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office will ultimately determine what charges will be levied against Brown when she is arraigned in New Rochelle City Court on Thursday afternoon.

Police said that Brown was among a group of five or six male and females who were involved in the fight.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the fight or stabbing have been asked to contact New Rochelle Det. Lt. Chris Hearle by calling (914) 654-2263.
