“I am honored by this recognition from the Environmental Advocates of New York, but the fight for good environmental policy is far from over,” Buchwald said in a statement. “As the frequency of extreme weather events – like those we’ve seen here in New York and across the globe – increase, and non-renewable energy costs rise, the need for environmentally responsible legislation has never been more urgent. We are facing new challenges every day and we need to continue to pass legislation that protects our local communities and keeps our environment vibrant.”
Buchwald represents Bedford, Harrison, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and half of White Plains in the state Assembly.
Every year, Environmental Advocates of New York grades New York State lawmakers according to their votes on bills that could help or harm our air, land, water, wildlife and health. Grades are then published in its Voters’ Guide.
Buchwald has sponsored and voted for a number of bills that Environmental Advocates of New York has rated as a “Major Benefit,” including a bill that would require the Department of Environmental Conservation to establish limits on greenhouse gas emissions, and legislation that would promote greener energy.
“We are delighted that Assemblyman Buchwald, in just his first year, has risen to the challenge of protecting our environment,” Dave Gahl, Environmental Advocates executive director, said in a statement. “In matters ranging from energy efficiency to clean water and clean air, Assemblyman Buchwald took the right votes for New York, and we’re proud that he earned a perfect score.”
