Cuomo Favorability Rating Surges, Trump's Falls In New Statewide Poll

Gov. Andrew Cuomo received good news Monday with the release of a new Siena College poll that showed his favorability ratings soaring, in contrast to President Donald Trump, whose numbers continued on a downward spiral, the poll of registered New York state voters found.

For the first time since January 2015, Cuomo's favorability ratings are up 60-34 percent, compared to 56-37 last month. His job performance rating is 50-48 percent, up from a negative 45-53 percent last month, the poll found.

And for the first time, half of the voters say they would vote to re-elect the New Castle resident, the poll revealed.

“Voters like Cuomo more now than at any time since his second term began. Maybe it’s because they like his 2017 agenda, or perhaps it’s a comparison with the President, or it might simply be because it’s been quiet the last few months on the corruption front,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

On the national stage, for the second month in a row, President Trump’s ratings fell to a negative 36-59 percent favorability rating, down from a negative 37-55 percent favorability rating last month, the poll showed.

Only 29 percent of New Yorkers give him a positive job performance rating, while 68 percent rated his job performance negatively, pollsters found.

Even New York Republican's view of the president dropped from 77 percent last month to 71 percent in the latest poll, Greenberg said.

Greenburg added that 79 percent of Democrats view him unfavorably and 85 percent give him a negative job performance rating, while 53 percent of independents view him unfavorably and 64 percent rate his job performance negatively.

The poll, which included every region of the state, found at least 62 percent of voters from every region give the president a negative job performance rating, Greenberg added.

In addition, while 54 percent of white voters have an unfavorable view of the president, 96 percent of black voters and 86 percent of Latino voters disapprove of President Trump, the poll reported.
