Harckham was elected in 2007 and was named the majority leader for the Board of Legislators in 2010.

He represents District 2 which includes Somers, Bedford, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Lewisboro and Pound Ridge.

Harckham's complete statement is below:

Dear Friends,

For the past seven years it has been my privilege and honor to represent the people of northeast Westchester on the Westchester County Board of Legislators. Together, by working in a bipartisan fashion, we have accumulated an impressive record of accomplishments in protecting our families, safeguarding our environment, investing in our infrastructure and making Westchester a more affordable place to live and conduct business.

I have worked tirelessly on your behalf, serving as a full time Legislator and am proud to say that I have given my all to this position. Yet the only constant in life is change. As I consider what is best for my family and me looking out over the next two years, I have concluded that the best course of action is to not seek a fifth term as your County Legislator. I have loved this job like no other I’ve had, but it is time to move in a new direction for my family and career.

Please rest assured that in my remaining year in office I will continue to work as hard and passionately as I have in the first seven. Now is not the time for swan songs or emotional farewells. There is too much work still to be done.

I want to thank the people of northeast Westchester for four times giving me the honor of serving you on the Westchester County Board of Legislators, and I look forward to working with you in the year to come.

Sincerely,

Pete
