USA's heartbreaking draw to Portugal has done nothing to dampen the spirits of people in the village as they watched the U.S. survive and advanced to the knockout stage.
Rob Cicoria said he had heard a lot of people talking about the World Cup and was starting to get into it. He wasn't a big fan of Luis Suarez, the Uruguayan suspended nine games for biting.
"I don't understand that at all," Cicoria said.
State Senator David Carlucci, who represents Ossining, said he was worried some of his employees would call out sick to watch USA v. Germany, which Team USA lost 1-0 but still managed to advance to the next round.
"This area has definitely caught the World Cup bug," Carlucci said.
Brendan Szendro, a soccer fan, said he enjoyed seeing the rest of his country come on board.
"It's cool to see national pride and to see the country rally behind this team," Szendro said. "There's not enough unity."
Szendro's dad was a soccer coach and Szendro has been playing his whole life. He said his favorite player on the Americans is Tim Howard. And don't get him started on USA's draw to Portugal.
"That was awful," Szendro said. "The refs didn't stop the game in time. They were acting unfairly toward the US."
