The Chappaqua school board voted unanimously at a special meeting on Friday to accept Schraufnagel's resignation, school board President Warren Messner told Daily Voice.
Messner declined to comment on why Schraufnagel resigned because it is a personnel matter.
New Castle Police launched an investigation in June pertaining to Schraufnagel's intersection with Greeley students, multiple media outlets previously reported.
Calls on Friday to the Westchester County District Attorney's office and a New Castle Police spokesman were not returned.
The school board approved Schraufnagel's leave of absence in June, which was with pay and began just days before graduation ceremonies. In August, the board voted to hire Jonathan Gellert as a replacement, according to district records.
Greeley Principal Robert Rhodes announced Schraufnagel's resignation in a letter addressed to parents on Friday afternoon. He also noted Gellert's role in handling the theater program.
"I feel it is important to share this new information as part of our commitment to keep families informed of new developments as quickly as possible," Rhodes wrote.
Schraufnagel, who was known as "Schrauf" by community members, was first hired by the school district in 2003 and received tenure in 2006, school board minutes show.
