Dear Editor,

Mrs. Rozgonyi is correct that Mrs. Susan Polos, who was librarian of MKES at the time, created the Newbery Book Club. Mrs. Rozgonyi is patently incorrect that I ever tried to take credit for this program’s creation. In her letter of support for me, Mrs. Broghammer mistakenly used the word “create” instead of “funded.” The Foundation for Bedford Central Schools, of which I was chair at the time, funded the Newbery Book Club at MKES for one year. I have always been completely clear that the accomplishments of the Foundation were in partnership with administration and teachers of BCSD and the actual funding came from generous community donors. It is sad that Mrs. Rozgonyi, instead of checking intent, went straight to accusing me of wrongdoing, proving once again that a good deed never goes unpunished.

Sincerely,

Marie Scanlan
