It is absolutely shameful that the level of discourse in a local school board election drops to the level of name calling and defacement and destruction of campaign signs. Jen Gerkin and Suzanne Grant have been with the majority of the school board for the last 6 years. They are responsible for the sorry state of our schools budgetary crisis. Years of mismanagement with chronic deficit budgets have completely depleted our reserves and led to a current $9 million dollar hole.

Mike Solomon was a voice of reason on the board for the last 3 years. When he questioned the lack of oversight on the school's finances, he was personally attacked and vilified by the majority members of the board. Behavior common in elementary schools has no place in board meetings. The majority of our current board members have rubber stamped the administrations requests without question. The role of the board is one of oversight not blanket acquiescence.

It is time for a change. We cannot trust Jen Gerkin or Suzanne Grant to suddenly wake up and do the right thing for our schools and our children. We should not elect a member of the teachers union to a position on a board which is on contract negotiations with that very union.

Mike Solomon, Pam Harney and Michelle Brooks will do what's right for our children, our schools and our community.
