About 400 educators attended the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center’s Tech Expo earlier this month at the Edith Macy Conference Center on Chappaqua Road to learn about how cutting-edge technology is being used in the classroom, according to event organizers.

The inaugural event drew teachers and faculty from the Ardsley, Bronxville, Croton Harmon, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Katonah Lewisboro, Ossining, Pelham, Scarsdale and Yorktown school districts.

In her keynote address, “Falling in Love with the Future,” Molly Schroeder, a global digital age learning specialist with the EdTechTeam, suggested students could be “moonshot thinkers” if they were provided with an environment designed to foster more creativity.

“There is so much potential in the students who are sitting in classrooms right now,” she said, describing the current era of education an “epic time” for creativity.

Superintendent of Schools for Virginia’s Albemarle County public schools, Pam Moran and Ira Socol, that district’s design project manager and director of educational technology and innovation, spoke about the successful and recent implementation of technological advances in the classroom.

Moran’s district is home to 26 schools with students from middle-class, agricultural and urban homes, according to the organizers. About 70 percent of the students speak a language beside English.

Moran said district need to shift the educational model to make learning more creative and set up for kids to succeed.
