Board of Education member Jennifer Gerken, in an update to colleagues at their Dec. 17 meeting, confirmed that there will be work taking place at West Patent Elementary School and Fox Lane Middle School, which is intended to be done in time for the start of classes.

Construction at West Patent, according to Gerken, will involve site work, the building's facade, roof and exterior. She added that there will be bathroom renovations and a boiler replacement at the school.

Meanwhile, work for the middle school's science space is slated to be finished, according to Gerken. Additionally, she included work on elevators for the middle school's South House and gym as among the projects.

Gerken also explained that work will start on the middle school's cafeteria addition - the space will be for multipurpose usage - along with some site work.

The work is part of Bedford Central's $31.8 million capital plan, a bundle of construction projects for several buildings. A bond referendum was approved for the plan in October 2013.

Gerken preceded her update by bringing up a recent meeting of the district's construction steering committee, its first since September.

“There’s some good, exciting news," she said before announcing the timetable for the two schools.
