BikeRun is an event that unites the five BCSD elementary schools in a fun and productive event to promote health, fitness and wellness goals throughout the community.
“Our wonderful leadership team and volunteers excited an outstanding event and we planned everything perfectly, but sadly had no control over the weather. Sunday morning was very rainy and a bit cold. We were worried about turn out, however all sponsors and contributors came as did almost 1,000 overall attendees,” said Christina Dotchermann, who has spearheaded the event from its beginnings.
“We had 275 kindergarten - 5th grade student athletes, from all 5 of the BCSD elementary schools, complete the BikeRun course on the Fox Lane Campus. Given the weather, it was a tremendous success,” she added.
Dochtermann said that while some participants were upset about the event not being canceled on upon their arrival, attitudes were nothing but smiles by the time everyone had finished the dampened course.
“They said, ‘We had no idea what to expect. BikeRun so far exceeds anything we imagined. It is so professionally organized and our kids loved it. We are so proud of them and we're all having a great time!’” she said.
The successful day was a combination of efforts ranging from Fox Lane custodial staff members, the pepband, cheerleaders and district officials including Superinendent Jere Hochman, Athletic Director Beth Starpoloi and Board of Education president Susan Wollin.
With another successful year in the books, the BikeRun is already looking forward to its fourth year in existence.
“Please mark your calendars for the 4th Annual BCSD Elementary BikeRun Sunday, May 18, 2014!” said Dochtermann.
