Many of the schools are reporting opt-out rates of 25 percent of the student body or higher, LoHud.com said.
Some of the highest numbers in the area were reported in Putnam County, including Mahopac Schools which is reporting 45 percent of elementary schoolers and 55 percent middle schoolers choosing not to take the tests, LoHud.com said.
On the other end of the spectrum, Byram Hills is reporting only 3.4 percent of its students opting out, LoHud.com reported.
