Beginning at 8 a.m. and extending through 11 a.m., Route 118 will be closed on Saturday between Downing Drive and Underhill Avenue as the section of road between Underhill Avenue and the Route 202 intersection is dedicated to Army Major Clayton Carpenter Memorial Highway.

A Lakeland High School and West Point graduate, Carpenter - who grew up in Cortlandt Manor - earned numerous awards during his military career before being killed in a training accident in Savannah, Ga. while acting as a special operations helicopter platoon leader.

Officials have scheduled a procession and ceremony honoring Carpenter and his service beginning at 9 a.m., stepping off at the Kear Street and Route 118 intersection, with a ceremony further up the roadway, north of Underhill Avenue.
