And will Katz resign from the Drug and Alcohol subcommittee ?

Ball is an embarassment. His ONLY interest is getting on Faux News. //// when he is defeated in 2014, he can get a job making incendiary comments with the likes of the Faux talking heads. View Comment
1) Medicare; over head for Medicare (ie staffing , administrative, executive compensation ) is 2% ; for United Health Care, Aetna, et al , it is 17%;
2) the USPS --- you may not be aware of this --- Congress is requiring the USPS to fund 75 years of pension obligations in a 10 year period ; and also refusing to allow USPS to enter ANY other line of business; The pension funding is the largest portion of the USPS deficit. a) union busting R us by Congress.

In the interim, Simon Properties has (has had) 10 vacant stores for a protracted period of time.
What is wrong with the Town attempting to lease space at rates favorable for the Town ?????

Any of the prospective tenants would be a step up from the currently vacant Food Emporium.

JV Mall remains an enigma. Periodically Simon Properties makes news (eg Bucco de Bepp restaurant -- Fall 2012 ; $45 M outside facelift -- Spring 2013 ) , but nothing seems to come about.
Currently JV Mall has 10 empty storefronts. --- As Yorktown is in ongoing need of space (as evidenced by Supervisor Grace' inquiry re the Trump office property on Barger St) , maybe the option would be for Simon to lease to the town some of those vacant storefronts.
N.B. Simon is demanding extremely high rates for their properties -- and providing tenants with not a lot of foot traffic. //// and their actions certainly seem to be that of a Property Mgmt company trying to make the worst of a bad situation.
------------------------
What downside would their be in leasing to the town some of their vacant properties ??? Survival of JV Mall will be as a mixed use property --- if Simon intends the Mall to be more than an asset writeoff, this is a good step.

Eager to hear Mr. Katz explanation of why he believes elected officials are entitled to flout the law , and ordinary citizens are forced to obey all laws that he and the legisature write.
Would like to know how possession of marijuana by Mr. Katz enhances his credentials to serve on the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Subcommittee.

Having a quantity of a controlled substance while sitting on the Drug Abuse and Alcoholism subcommittee is a bit much.
What laws does Mr. Katz expect ordinary citizens to follow, and how does that differ from the laws he expects elected officials to follow ???
-------------------------------------------------------------
We should expect more from elected officials than from the likes of Hiram Monserrate, Shirley Huntley, Carl Kruger, or Pedro Espada.
NYS legislature is averaging 1 + conviction / year.
Voters need to do better. View Comment
Assemblyman Katz received a ticket for violating at least one of the traffic laws of New York State
Assemblyman Katz also had a small quantity of marijuana, as documented by NYS police. Currently, possession of marijuana is illegal in New York State. --- Per the account, Mr. Katz was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
If you believe that reporting on elected officials who violate NYS laws concerning traffic , and possession of (currently ) contraband to be republican bashing, then we best give thanks to the press for holding elected officials accountable and "bashing" them, to use your term.
If the evidence presented by the NYS trooper turns out to be erroneous, then the press should acknowledge that no wrongdoing was committed by Mr. Katz. View Comment
Mr Katz serves on the NYS Assembly Drug Abuse and Alcoholism Subcommittee.
In his next statement, hopefully Mr. Katz will provide clarification on which laws he believes elected officials should observe., and which laws ordinary citizens should observe. View Comment
This is a small step forward by Simon Properties.

Still waiting and hoping for any news on the prospective restaurant -- Bucca di Beppo --- opening
Also, the mall has announced a $45M facelift ; but have not seen any start dates;
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Currently the Mall has 10+ empty properties --- agree with you that filling them should be a higher priority than what appears to have taken place to date.
Easy to grouse about the lack of tenants ----------- what stores would you want to see ?
And to Simon --- what help do you need from the Town ????

A hopeful sign from Simon Properties.
Appears Macys had a good quarter, and that Sears is holding.
Macys same store sales were up 3.9% in 2012 ; Sears same store were down 1.8% in 2012.
Let us watch for Simon to fill some more of those vacant leases. View Comment
The "public" also consists of taxpayers who are paying for the facilities.
Would like to hear what expectations were given for access by the public to Lakeland facilities during the myriad bond votes that the public approved. View Comment

This is plain and simple union busting by Congressional Republicans.
They are making USPS fund 75 years of pension obligations in a 10 year span ; and prohibiting USPS from attempting any other business options -- such as small bank banking (savings / checking accts)
USPS can and has managed to the 40% drop in Mail volume, ; but is challenged when Congress keeps moving the goal posts. View Comment
1) Would like to see Mr. Cole come back with a total cost for these safety/security provisions;
2) Would like to see Mr. Ball and Mr. Katz try to spend less time trying to get on Fox News, and explain how they are going to get funding for the measures outlined by Mr. Cole; View Comment
Certainly seems that the JV Mall managers are trying to make the worst of a difficult situation.
-----------------------------------------------------------
High vacancies , 50 % occupancy at their food court ; several long complicated negotiations with restaurants which prove fruitless (issue has been an outside door separate from the mall entrance ---- the mall (?)/town(?) have held their building code(?)/zoning criteria(?) --- and have no foot traffic to show for it )'
Awaiting the JV Mall management announcement of new tenants coming in Spring and Summer of 2013 View Comment
