MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Know the difference between Leccino, Pipcual and Organic Barnea olive oils? Or between a dark balsamic and a light? Head to Hudson Valley Olive Oil for an education -- and a taste.
The newly opened store -- the ribbon cutting was Dec. 6 though the store has been quietly open for three weeks -- is all about introducing people to new flavors and tastes.
According to Owner Shane Furnia, most people don't realize how many different uses these oils and balsamics have. "Our oils and balsamics are not just for salads," he said. "You can cook, saute, marinate, bake and use for a dipping dishes."
"Try the strawberry balsamic drizzled over your cheesecake or even take the peach balsamic and use it to make a refreshing peach bellini," he continued. "Or take your average salad up a notch with blood orange oil and dark chocolate balsamic. The combinations are endless."
Furnia is quick to point out the freshness of the oils, and the fact that guests can try what they want, purchase or no purchase. The store stocks single variety extra virgin olive oils as well as fused and infused olive oils -- more than 25 varieties of each. The balsamic vinegars hail from Modena, Italy, and are barrel aged 12 years (18 years for the traditional balsamic). The store also sells sea salt and a wide selection of pastas.
As part of the grand opening promotion, Furnia is offering a "buy two bottles, get two free pour spouts." And despite his short time in Westchester, the Dutchess County resident said he has his eyes on other towns in the area for a possible second location.
Hudson Valley Olive Oil is at 55 S. Moger Ave., 914-864-0788.
