County's Mobile Shredder Coming To Mount Kisco

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y.-- Old documents and bills are a gold mine for identity thieves, so Mount Kisco Police urge residents to take advantage of the county's mobile shredder coming to town on Feb. 6.

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 198 Carpenter Ave. (location of Mount Kisco's Fox Senior Center), village residents can safely destroy unwanted personal papers and documents without cost.

Before recycling or discarding, residents can shred documents that contain personal identifying information such as name, address, phone number, credit card number or Social Security number.

Acceptable documents include pre-approved credit card applications, old credit card bills, receipts, bank statements and old tax returns.

Mount Kisco residents must follow several regulations to participate in the shredding event:

*Paper generated by businesses, schools, institutions, government or municipal offices will not be accepted.

*Each resident may bring a maximum of four file boxes approximately 10 inches  by 12 inches by 15 inches in size.

*Paper must be free of clips, bindings, folders and files.

*No bound or hardcover ledger books are allowed."

For more information about minimizing the risk of identity theft, call the Westchester County Department of Consumer Protection at 914-995-2155 or visit the department page.
