The awards afford the chamber an opportunity to recognize outstanding contributions to the community and provide a platform for the chamber’s entire membership to gather in celebration of excellence among its peers.
Joe and Rita Bertino are the directors of Camp Nabby, a 17-acre family camp in Mohegan Lake.
Alice Roker is the former Yorktown town clerk who was the first Democrat and African-American to be elected to local office.
The Yorktown Citizens Task Force Against Heroin was created on April 25, 2015, with a mission to provide information and foster educational awareness of the rampant use of heroin through a course of action to combat this drug epidemic in the community.
Over the past 10 months, it has held open forums with experts in the field of addiction as well as meetings with families and addicts sharing their personal experiences.
In addition, it also provides self-defense classes for kids within the community with an emphasis on combating bullying, peer pressure and the ability to say no to drugs.
On March 19, the Yorktown Citizens Task Force Against Heroin held its first Naloxone training to help prevent heroin overdoses.
