Yorktown Gears Up For Eighth Annual Street Fair

YORKTOWN, N. Y. -- The festival season isn't over in Yorktown where plans are under way for

food, live entertainment, amusement rides and vendors for the 8th Annual Yorktown Festival and Street Fair on Sunday, Oct. 9 in downtown Yorktown.

Organized by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Yorktown, the outdoor event takes place from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. along Commerce Street and Veterans Road. Admission is free.

Some of the highlights include a hot dog eating contest, a senior luncheon, an American Red Cross blood drive, a dog costume contest and parade, dance and musical performances and more. 

New to the festival this year will be a hula hoop contest to be held 12:30 p.m. for all ages. Funtime Amusements will provide rides, games and food, and the Timeless Torches of the New York Liberty will perform dance moves, organizers said.

More than 250 vendors will be out offering a variety of items for shoppers, and a lineup of performers are set to provide live entertainment on the main stage. Entertainers include Westchester Ballet Center, Dance For Joy, Cortlandt School of Performing Arts, Sailing Stone.

There will also be an open mic musical talents show coordinated by Bob Hill from Mohansic Grill & Lounge’s Open Mic Night. Any acts interested in participating should contact Bob Hill at artlino@aol.com.

Also returning this year is the complimentary senior luncheon scheduled from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Yorktown Cultural Center. Many area businesses are providing sponsorship for the event, and anyone interested in helping can visit the chamber's website.
