September 11 Memorial Services Planned Across Westchester

A number of area ceremonies to remember the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, its victims and first responders are planned in Westchester County on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The county sponsors a 3 p.m. ceremony at “The Rising,” a permanent memorial near the base of the Kensico Dam in Valhalla.

Here are some other local 9/11 ceremonies across Westchester:

  • The Town of North Castle will hold a 5:30 p.m. memorial service at Wampus Brook Park on Maple Avenue in Armonk. 
  • The Mount Kisco Fire Department will host its annual ceremony at 6 p.m. on the north side lawn of the public library at 100 E. Main St. 
  • The Town of New Castle will hold a 6:30 p.m. ceremony at Gedney Park's 9/11 memorial off of Route 133. 
  • The Town of Mamaroneck, along with the Village of Mamaroneck and the Village of Larchmont holds a 5 p.m. ceremony at “Girl Scout Rock” in Memorial Park. The park is on Myrtle Boulevard between Chatsworth Avenue and Baldwin Avenue, opposite Plates Restaurant in Larchmont.
  • At 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Town of Greenburgh officials and police will join the Hartsdale, Fairview and Greenville Fire Departments during an indoor ceremony indoors at the Hartsdale Station One firehouse at 25 South Central Ave., Hartsdale.
  • In New Rochelle, there is an annual 9/11 Candle Light Vigil at American Legion Post 8 located at 112 North Ave.(Doors open at 7:30). the service begins at 8 p.m. This event is sponsored by The United Veterans Memorial & Patriotic Association of NR and The American Legion Post 8 NR. Additional parking available across in the church lot. 

  • The City of White Plains, led by Mayor Tom Roach will hold an 8 a.m. ceremony at Liberty Park on Lake Street.at the site of the permanent memorial for the residents of White Plains killed on September 11, 2001. The ceremony will include a flag raising, wreath laying and spoken words.

Additionally, White Plains will pause midday during a noon ceremony at Renaissance Plaza in downtown White Plains, to honor those who rose in service and celebrate the strength of our nation. There will be a musical performance, a moment of silence and readings.
