The award was presented by the American Institute of Architects in New York State (AIANYS) at the award ceremony, which took place at the annual “Excelsior Awards Presentation Reception” on Monday, April 27 at the Sixty State Place in Albany.

AIANYS honors New York State funded projects that serve the public. The AIA New York State Excelsior Award celebrates design and professional excellence in publically funded buildings in New York State.

AIA New York State, in collaboration with the New York State contracting agencies, has created these awards to provide a model of excellence for future state-funded building design and professional practice and advocacy. The KG&D project won the “Excelsior Award of Distinction in Public Architecture” for its beautiful design for Post Road Elementary School (White Plains, NY Public Schools) -- in the “New Construction” category.

KG&D marked its 20th year as a firm in 2014, building upon the well-established legacy of its predecessor firms for more than 70 years of superior services to public and private clients throughout the region.

“KG&D is honored to be recognized by AIANYS for our work with White Plains Public Schools on the new Post Road Elementary School,” said Russell A. Davidson, FAIA president of KG&D Architects, PC.

“As the majority of our firm’s work is based in publicly funded projects, our team takes pride in collaborating with our clients to develop a valid concept and exceptional design that is durable and economical for the owners, functional for the users and inspiring to the greater community. The sustainable, community focused, neighborhood school that developed through our collaboration with White Plains Public Schools is a direct reflection of the White Plains community.”
