OSSINING, N.Y. – The Open Door Foundation announced the beginning of its annual toy drive this week.

Each year, the foundation collects toys for children from families of less fortunate means, with the gifts handed out by Santa Claus himself at the five Open Door medical centers in the area.

The centers are in Mount Kisco at 30 W. Main St., 165 Main St. in Ossining, 5 Grace Church St. in Port Chester, 80 Beekman Ave. in Sleepy Hollow and 155 Main St., suite 101 (lower level) in Brewster.

Open Door is accepting donations of of new toys, valued between $10 and $20, through Dec. 10 for newborns to 14 years old. The foundation's goal is to collect 2,500 new, unwrapped toys by the end of the drive.

Curious donors can go on Amazon.com (listed under 'Open Door Holiday Toy Drive') or Kohl's website (‘Registries / Special Days 2846646’) to find wish lists of toys to make shopping easier.

Monetary donations also are accepted and 'Open Door Elves' will take care of the shopping. Checks made payable to Open Door Foundation may be mailed to Alicia Ward, Open Door Foundation, 2 Church St., Suite 101, Ossining, NY 10562.

Credit card donation may be made online at: http://www.opendoormedical.org. Be sure to note “Toy Drive” in the comment box.

The foundation also is looking for volunteers to help organize and wrap the gifts. Donations of holiday gift wrap and AA, AAA, C, D and 9-volt batteries are appreciated.
