The Red Cross responded at about 5 a.m. to the fire, she explained, adding that it was at a home at 125 Spring St. The family displaced includes two adults and four children, Sherwin said.
The family has since been given emergency shelter, according to Sherwin.
Sherwin praised the collaboration that took place between the Red Cross, the local fire department and the ambulance corps, describing a "textbook example of emergency services working together." She noted that the ambulance corps opened its building as a place to stay warm, while someone was at the scene to provide translation support.
