A 34-year-old man is behind bars after breaking into a Northern Westchester residence and forcing himself on a victim, state police said.

Troopers responded to Henning Drive in the town of Cortlandt for a burglary in progress on Sunday, Sept. 23 at approximately 5 p.m.

An investigation found Andrew J. Ortner of Cortlandt entered a dwelling illegally, and forced himself on a victim at the residence. Ortner resisted briefly while being taken into custody, and during processing used his head to damage state property before being restrained by troopers.

Ortner was charged with burglary in the second degree (a Class C felony), assault in the second degree (a Class D felony), forcible touching, criminal mischief in the fourth degree and resisting arrest, all Class A misdemeanor.

Ortner was arraigned before the town of Cortlandt Court, and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

Orders of protections were issued by the court for all members of the burglarized residence.
