Democrat Karen B. Schleimer, a Mount Kisco attorney, was elected to the seat vacated by Trustee Joseph Morreale (D) with 2,132 votes. She was also unopposed.
This year's trustee race was uncontested because Mount Kisco Republicans declined to put up any candidates. Schleimer will join Farber and the village’s other two trustees, Anthony Markus and Deputy Mayor George Griffin. Trustees’ terms last two years and they govern the village along with Mayor Michael Cindrich. Farber, 64, an associate real estate broker with Houlihan Lawrence, has lived in Mount Kisco with her husband, Irving, for six years. She has a son, Brian, and a daughter, Lauren. Farber, who said she has lived in Northern Westchester for 27 years, has also held elected positions as a New York State Democratic committee member for the 93rd District and as the vice president of Glassbury Court board of directors, and participates in the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Kisco Historical Society.
“Our local issues are the same as they are on the national level: jobs, the economy and stretching the middle-class paycheck. As a village trustee, it is my goal to constantly do more with less. Mount Kisco is one of the most affordable and enjoyable places to live in northern Westchester,” Farber stated in a Q&A prior to the election. “It is my intention to keep it that way.”
Schleimer, 64, an attorney, has lived in Mount Kisco since 1978 and has one daughter. She is involved in numerous civic organizations and boards such as the New York State Brain Injury Association, the League of Women Voters, the Mount Kisco Library Foundation, the Mount Kisco Planning Board, the Mount Kisco Zoning Board of Appeals, the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation, Livable Communities and various other village committees. “The previous office holder [Joseph Morreale] did a tremendous job. I can only hope that I can fulfill the job of this office with as much dedication, thoroughness and thoughtfulness as my predecessor,” Schleimer said in a Q&A.
In another uncontested race, Village Justice Mark Farrell was re-elected to his seat Tuesday with 2,334 votes. He is one of Mount Kisco's two justices; the other is Justice John Donohue.
